While technically my ancestors were in this country in the mid 1600’s, today as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of Independence, I feel it is important to honor those ancestors who fought for our freedom and forged the way to make the United States the great country that it is today!
I went back into my family tree and located my direct ancestors on my maternal side that participated in the Revolutionary War.
Starting with my 8th great-grandfather: Pvt. John Stroup/Stroop, born 1725 in Germany, died 1781 in Philadelphia.
His son, my 7th great-grandfather, Capt. Henry Stroup/Stroop, born 1753 in Germany, died 1843 in Philadelphia.
My 6th great-grandfather David Gilman, born 1749 in New Jersey and died 1810 in New Jersey.
I also managed to identify numerous uncles and cousins, but for today, I will stick with my direct ancestors.
Here’s to America!
